KRS horizontal bead mill with stainless steel grinding chamber, pressure gauges and control panel

PRODUCTS – HIGH ENERGY BEAD MILLS

High Energy Bead Mill Manufacturer in India

KRS DISPERMAHLTECHNIK manufactures high energy bead mills for wet grinding and fine dispersion of pigments in paints, printing inks, coatings and chemicals.

OVERVIEW

What is a high energy bead mill?

A high energy bead mill is a wet grinding machine: an agitator sets grinding beads in a closed chamber in intense motion, and the beads reduce the particle size of the pre-dispersed product. Bead mills are the industrial milling equipment used after pre-dispersion when a product needs a finer, more uniform particle size than a disperser alone can achieve – for example in paints, printing inks and coatings.

As a bead mill manufacturer in India, KRS builds horizontal production bead mills, laboratory bead mills and flameproof bead mills.

HOW IT WORKS

How bead milling works

Grinding chamber

The pre-dispersed product is pumped through a closed horizontal chamber filled with grinding beads.

Bead motion

An agitator sets the beads in motion; impact and shear between them break particles down.

Separation

A separation system at the outlet retains the beads while the finished product leaves the chamber.

CONSTRUCTION

Machine construction and key features

A KRS bead mill combines a horizontal grinding chamber with an agitator, a drive in the machine base, a product feed and a media separation system at the chamber outlet. Pressure gauges on the product circuit and a control panel at the machine let the operator monitor the process.

FAQ

Questions about high energy bead mills

Can’t find your answer? Ask our engineers.

What is a high energy bead mill?

A wet grinding machine in which an agitator moves grinding beads inside a closed chamber. The beads reduce the particle size of solids dispersed in a liquid, giving a fine and uniform dispersion.

What is a bead mill used for?

For wet grinding and fine dispersion: reducing the particle size of pigments and other solids in a liquid to a defined fineness, for example in paints, inks, coatings and chemical products.

How does a bead mill work?

The pre-dispersed product is pumped through a chamber filled with grinding beads. An agitator moves the beads, impact and shear between them break particles down, and a separation system keeps the beads inside the chamber.

What materials can be processed?

Liquid, pumpable products containing solids – pigment dispersions, paints, liquid printing inks, coatings and chemical suspensions. Very high-viscosity pastes are usually better suited to a three-roll mill.

How does bead milling reduce particle size?

Through repeated impact and shear between the moving beads. Bead size, agitator speed and the time the product spends in the chamber determine the final fineness.

Bead mill or three-roll mill – which do I need?

Bead mills suit liquid, pumpable products in continuous operation; three-roll mills suit high-viscosity pastes such as paste printing inks.

What information is required for a bead mill quotation?

Your product and application, viscosity and solids content, required throughput, target fineness and the operating environment – for example whether flameproof execution is needed.
